15 NYSC Members Abducted by Suspected Bandits in Kogi State

The Kogi State Police Command has confirmed the abduction of 15 National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members by suspected armed bandits along the Aloma–Egane Expressway in Ofu Local Government Area of the state.

The corps members were reportedly travelling from the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp in Kolokuma/Opokuma Local Government Area of Bayelsa State to Abuja when they were intercepted by the armed assailants.

The Police Public Relations Officer of the Kogi State Command, ASP Saliu Oyiza Afusat, confirmed the incident.

Afusat said the command immediately commenced efforts to rescue the abducted corps members and other victims taken by the attackers.

According to her, a coordinated bush-combing and rescue operation was subsequently launched in the area.

The operation resulted in the successful rescue of 11 abducted victims, she said.

The police spokesperson added that preliminary debriefing of the rescued victims indicated that most of them were among the NYSC members abducted along the highway.

She said security operatives were continuing efforts to locate and rescue the remaining victims while investigations into the incident were ongoing.

The latest incident has raised fresh concerns over the safety of major highways in Kogi State, particularly routes linking the North-Central region with other parts of the country.

Security agencies are expected to intensify surveillance and operations in the affected area to prevent further attacks and ensure the safe recovery of all those still in captivity.
