Eight members of the Zamfara State House of Assembly have resigned their membership of the All Progressives Congress (APC), citing worsening insecurity, alleged political injustice and unpaid salaries and allowances.

The lawmakers, who have been suspended from the Assembly, announced their decision on Sunday, October 4, 2026, amid renewed political tensions in the state. Their action comes ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The lawmakers include Aliyu Ango Kagara, representing Talata Mafara South; Ibrahim Tukur Bakura of Bakura; Faruk Musa Dosara of Maradun I; Bashir Abubakar Masama of Bukkuyum North; Muktaru Nasiru Kaura of Kaura North; Nasiru Abdullahi of Maru North; Bashar Bello of Bungudu West; and Bashar Aliyu of Gummi

Speaking on the development, Kagara said the lawmakers could no longer remain in the APC because of what they described as the failure of the party and the state government to adequately address insecurity, particularly in rural communities.

He also alleged that the lawmakers had been denied their salaries, allowances and other entitlements for 32 months.

According to Kagara, the lawmakers had repeatedly raised concerns over the security situation affecting their constituents but were dissatisfied with the response of Governor Dauda Lawal’s administration.

“What we are challenging Governor Lawal’s administration about is even worse now compared to previous times, so we have seen no reason to continue remaining in the APC,” Kagara said.

He said the lawmakers had yet to decide which political party they would join, explaining that they were consulting their constituents before making a decision.

Meanwhile, the Zamfara APC leadership said it had not received official notification of the lawmakers’ resignation.

The party’s Publicity Secretary, Ibrahim Danmadamin Birnin Magaji, said the APC had only seen the resignation letters on social media and was awaiting formal communication through the appropriate party structures before taking a position.
