The Lagos State Police Command has launched a full-scale investigation into the delivery of a suspicious parcel containing two rounds of live ammunition to the residence of the Managing Director of First Bank of Nigeria, Oluwasegun Alebiosu.

The Commissioner of Police, Tijani Fatai, confirmed the incident during a press briefing at the command headquarters in Ikeja on Tuesday, stating that the matter was reported on May 7, 2026.

According to the police boss, a security guard at Alebiosu’s Ikoyi residence received the envelope on his behalf and later handed it over to the bank chief.

Upon opening the envelope, Alebiosu discovered two rounds of 7.62mm live ammunition concealed inside.

The package contained no accompanying letter, note, or any information that could reveal the identity of the sender.

The Commissioner of Police described the incident as a serious security concern requiring thorough investigation. “The Managing Director reported the matter to the police after discovering two rounds of 7.62mm live ammunition in a parcel collected on his behalf,” CP Fatai stated. “The case is still under investigation, and we are treating it with the seriousness it deserves”.

The police commissioner disclosed that no arrests had been made in connection with the incident.

He noted that the bank chief had provided names of individuals he suspected might be connected to the delivery, though the police are treating those as investigative leads rather than conclusive evidence.

“Presently, no suspect is in custody. Even though the MD has mentioned some people who he suspected of being the brains behind it, that is his suspicion anyway. We are still working on it,” CP Fatai explained.

Investigators are reviewing Closed-Circuit Television footage from the Ikoyi area as part of efforts to identify the dispatch rider who delivered the package and reconstruct the delivery chain.

A senior police officer at the State Criminal Investigation Department, Panti, confirmed that the rider remains a key focus of the investigation.

Security sources familiar with the matter said the incident has triggered internal security concerns within the financial institution, particularly as it coincided with ongoing loan recovery and restructuring measures being implemented by the bank.

Sources also alleged that the delivery might be an act of intimidation targeted at the bank’s leadership.

The police assured the public that forensic and intelligence-driven investigations are ongoing to determine the origin of the parcel, identify those responsible, and establish whether the incident was intended as a threat or linked to any criminal activity. The command urged residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities.
