Olowu Of Kuta Pledges Continued Backing For Journalists As NUJ Osun Council Visits Palace

The Olowu of Kuta, His Royal Majesty Oba Dr. Hammed Adekunle Oyelude Makama, Tegbosun III, has pledged to sustain his support for journalists and the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Osun State Council, receiving the Council’s delegation at his palace in Kuta on 31st October, 2026, during its Press Week programme.

The visit, the fourth year running that the Monarch has hosted the Council, was led by Chairman Dr. Adeyemi Aboderin, who thanked the Olowu for his steadfast backing over the years.

He disclosed that the Monarch holds the distinction of being the first Life Patron of the OSBC Chapel of the Council, a landmark in the Council’s history, and the first recipient of its newly introduced Press Week Royal Award in recognition of his contributions to journalism and community development.

Aboderin said the Olowu’s support for press freedom and the ideals of the NUJ is invaluable to the growth of journalism in Osun State.

Speaking on behalf of the NUJ National President, Zonal Secretary Razaq Alege recalled his first meeting with the Olowu shortly before his coronation, when a cousin of former Head of State General Ibrahim Babangida delivered a congratulatory letter from the former Military ruler to the Oba.

He said the gesture foreshadowed the influence the Monarch would bring to bear on his community, adding that the development he met in Kuta on his return confirmed those expectations.

He praised the Olowu’s transformative leadership and dedication to the progress of the town and its people.

In his response, the Olowu said he was honoured to receive the Council for the fourth consecutive year and restated his belief in the media’s power to shape society positively. He pledged to keep working with the NUJ to promote ethical journalism, good governance and community development.

Guests were served choice meals, and the mood brightened when fast-rising entertainer Rasheed Apala, who happened to be visiting the palace at the time, performed for the gathering.

The visibly delighted Monarch danced with his guests as the visit ended on a joyful note.
