alt bank has expanded its community banking initiative in Lagos State with the launch of six AltBoxes across Agege Local Government Area, bringing financial services closer to residents, traders and small business owners.

The initiative, launched on Wednesday, November 4, 2026, in partnership with Agege Local Government, is designed to improve access to banking services, promote local economic participation and create employment opportunities within the communities.

The project was implemented in collaboration with Agege Local Government, led by its Executive Chairman, Hon. Abdul-Ganiyu Vinod Obasa.

Through the AltBox initiative, residents can access banking services at dedicated community-based locations, reducing the need to travel long distances to reach conventional banking outlets.

The model is expected to make banking more convenient for individuals, traders and small-scale entrepreneurs who depend on accessible financial services for their daily transactions and business activities.

Speaking on the initiative, Mohammed Yunusa, Divisional Head, Digital Banking and Commerce at alt bank, said the project reflected the bank’s commitment to expanding financial inclusion through solutions tailored to the needs of local communities.

“Financial inclusion must respond to the real needs of communities. Through these AltBoxes, we are bringing banking closer to residents, making access more convenient and supporting greater participation in the formal financial system,” Yunusa said.

The bank said the rollout demonstrated the importance of collaboration between financial institutions and government authorities in developing community-driven solutions that promote financial access and economic participation.

alt bank also expressed its readiness to partner with other local and state governments interested in adopting similar models to extend banking services to their residents.

The initiative aligns with the bank’s broader commitment to financial inclusion and economic empowerment under its purpose of Creating Wealth.

alt bank commenced operations in January 2014 as a non-interest banking window within Sterling before receiving a standalone banking licence from the Central Bank of Nigeria in July 2023.
