Ambassador Yakubu Assumes Diplomatic Role in Qatar, Seeks Stronger Bilateral Cooperation

Professor Mahmood Yakubu has officially assumed office as Nigeria’s Ambassador to the State of Qatar after presenting his Letter of Credence to Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani.

The presentation took place on Thursday at the Amiri Diwan during a ceremony conducted with full state honours, including the inspection of a Guard of Honour.

Following the formal presentation, the Amir received Ambassador Yakubu in a private audience, where he warmly welcomed the Nigerian envoy and reaffirmed the enduring friendship between Nigeria and Qatar.

Sheikh Tamim recalled previous high-level exchanges between the two countries and reiterated Qatar’s commitment to strengthening bilateral relations in areas of mutual interest.

In his remarks, Ambassador Yakubu conveyed Nigeria’s condolences over the recent accident at Ras Laffan Industrial City and expressed solidarity with the government and people of Qatar.

The ambassador also reaffirmed Nigeria’s determination to deepen cooperation with Qatar in critical sectors, including trade, investment, education, security and humanitarian affairs.

The presentation of the Letter of Credence marks the formal commencement of Ambassador Yakubu’s diplomatic assignment, with expectations that both nations will build on their existing partnership through expanded political and economic engagement.
