Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has expressed condolences to the family of Nasir El-Rufai following the death of Hajiya Safiya Ali Rufai, who passed away on Sallah day.

In a statement, Atiku said he joins the El-Rufai family, relatives, and friends in mourning the loss, describing the late matriarch as a compassionate and respected figure. Hajiya Safiya, fondly known as Aunty Safiya, was the wife of the late Air Vice Marshal Ali Rufai, elder brother of the former Kaduna State governor.

“At a time like this, I stand in total submission to the will of Almighty Allah and share in the grief of the family,” Atiku stated, noting that the deceased would be remembered for her kindness and motherly role within the family.

He, however, described the timing of her passing as particularly painful, alleging that Nasir El-Rufai is currently facing political detention under the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Atiku offered prayers for the repose of her soul, asking Allah to forgive her shortcomings, grant her Aljannah Firdaus, and give strength and comfort to the bereaved family.
