DSS Arraigns Four Suspected IPOB Members Over Alleged Killing Of Operative

The Department of State Services has arraigned four men over their alleged involvement in the abduction and killing of its operative, Ekpenyong Asuquo Owoh.

The defendants were arraigned on a six count charge bordering on terrorism and the alleged kidnapping of a DSS personnel before the Federal High Court sitting in Abuja.

They were identified as Michael Okafor, also known as Onyechimeleze; Chinedu Joseph Chukwudozie, alias Kante; Chibunna Olisa; and Chigozie Olisa, also known as Ability.

The prosecution alleged that the defendants conspired to commit acts of terrorism and participated in the abduction of Owoh while he was travelling from Port Harcourt, Rivers State, to Awka, Anambra State.

They were further accused of holding the DSS operative hostage and causing his death during the alleged operation.

The prosecution also alleged that the defendants belonged to the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra and its armed wing, the Eastern Security Network, and participated in activities allegedly connected to terrorism.

In addition, the four suspects were accused of unlawful possession of firearms, including AK 47 and pump action rifles, allegedly in connection with the offences.

The charges followed investigations into the circumstances surrounding Owoh’s disappearance and death, as well as the alleged activities of the defendants.

Security sources said Owoh disappeared on February 23, 2022, along the Orlu Road in Ihiala Local Government Area of Anambra State, while travelling towards Awka in a silver coloured Pontiac Vibe.

The prosecution is expected to present evidence linking the defendants to the alleged offences as proceedings continue.

A security source said the DSS had continued to intensify intelligence led operations against individuals suspected of involvement in terrorism, kidnapping and other violent crimes.

“With this particular case involving its personnel, it is hoped that justice will prevail,” the source said.
