The Carolina Hurricanes produced one of the most dramatic comebacks in Stanley Cup Final history on Saturday night, erasing a four-goal deficit before Andrei Svechnikov scored a late equalizer to force overtime against the Vegas Golden Knights in Game 3.

The Golden Knights appeared firmly in control after a dominant second period in which forward Mitch Marner recorded a natural hat trick and added an assist. Vegas scored four unanswered goals in the middle frame, with Marner finding the net three times in just over six minutes, setting a Stanley Cup Final record for the fastest hat trick. Tomas Hertl also scored as the home side built a commanding 4-0 lead.

Carolina, however, mounted an extraordinary response in the third period. Goals from Jordan Martinook, Taylor Hall and Jordan Staal arrived in rapid succession, cutting the deficit to one and shifting momentum dramatically in favor of the visitors. The three goals came within a span of just 39 seconds, the fastest such burst ever recorded in a Stanley Cup Final game.

With time running out and their net empty for an extra attacker, the Hurricanes earned a six-on-four power play. Svechnikov then jammed home the tying goal with just 1:42 remaining in regulation, completing the four-goal comeback and silencing the crowd at T-Mobile Arena.

The rally placed Carolina on the brink of making history. Teams trailing by four or more goals in a Stanley Cup Final game had previously been 0-108, making the Hurricanes’ comeback one of the most remarkable in championship history.

Vegas had received a boost before the game with the return of defenseman Brayden McNabb, who recovered quickly after suffering a facial injury in Game 2. The Golden Knights also benefited from strong performances by captain Mark Stone and goaltender Carter Hart, but Carolina’s relentless pressure turned what looked like a comfortable victory into a tense battle.
