João Pedro Wins Premier League Player of the Month Award for August

Chelsea forward João Pedro has been named the Premier League’s Player of the Month for August 2026 after making an impressive start to his first full season with the London club.

The Brazilian forward was rewarded for his influential performances during Chelsea’s opening matches of the 2026/27 Premier League campaign, beating seven other nominees to claim the individual prize.

João Pedro recorded two goals and two assists during August, playing a key role in Chelsea’s strong start under new manager Xabi Alonso. The Premier League confirmed him as the winner on Friday.

The 23-year-old began the campaign by scoring just 31 seconds into Chelsea’s 3-2 victory over Fulham, before providing the assist for Cole Palmer’s winning goal.

He continued his excellent form against Brighton & Hove Albion, scoring Chelsea’s third goal in their thrilling 4-3 victory before setting up Palmer to score the decisive goal.

His four goal contributions during August placed him among the Premier League’s most productive attacking players at the start of the new campaign. The league’s official statistics also highlighted his combination of goalscoring, creativity and defensive contribution.

João Pedro’s award comes after he was also voted Chelsea’s Player of the Month for August by supporters. He received 77 per cent of the votes in the club’s poll, comfortably finishing ahead of Moisés Caicedo and fellow Brazilian youngster Estevão Willian.

His Premier League award is another milestone in what has been a remarkable period for the forward since joining Chelsea from Brighton.

João Pedro had already impressed during the Club World Cup, where he scored twice against former club Fluminense in the semi-final before finding the net again against Paris Saint-Germain in the final as Chelsea lifted the trophy.

The August award also makes João Pedro the first Chelsea player to win the Premier League’s Player of the Month prize since Cole Palmer in September 2024.

The Brazilian beat Arsenal’s Riccardo Calafiori, Chelsea teammate Cole Palmer, Manchester City’s Rayan Cherki, Brentford’s Mamadou Sangare, Hull City goalkeeper Konstantinos Tzolakis, Newcastle United’s Yoane Wissa and Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes to the award.

With Chelsea looking to challenge for major honours under Alonso, João Pedro’s explosive start has given the club another attacking weapon and strengthened expectations surrounding his first season at Stamford Bridge.
