The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Tunji Disu, on Tuesday arrived in Gusau, the Zamfara State capital, to attend the burial of three police officers reportedly killed in an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) explosion while on duty.

The IGP’s aircraft touched down at the Gusau Airport at approximately 2:23 p.m., as preparations intensified for the final rites of the fallen officers.

The officers were among security personnel feared dead following an IED attack in Zamfara State, an incident that has once again highlighted the growing threat posed by armed groups and the use of explosive devices in the North-West region.

Sources said the police chief’s visit underscores the Force Headquarters’ commitment to honouring officers who paid the supreme price in the line of duty and to boosting the morale of personnel engaged in ongoing security operations across the country.

The burial ceremony is expected to draw senior police officers, government officials, traditional rulers, and family members of the deceased.

Further details on the circumstances surrounding the attack and the identities of the slain officers were still being awaited at the time of filing this report.
