Russian teenager Mirra Andreeva has captured her first Grand Slam title after defeating Polish qualifier Maja Chwalinska in the women’s singles final of the 2026 French Open at Roland Garros in Paris.

The 19-year-old eighth seed delivered a composed and dominant performance, winning 6-3, 6-2 to claim the biggest title of her young career and complete a remarkable rise in women’s tennis.

Andreeva entered the tournament as one of the favorites and lived up to expectations, dropping only one set throughout the competition. Her victory over Chwalinska ended the Polish player’s fairytale run from the qualifying rounds to the championship match.

The triumph makes Andreeva the youngest women’s singles champion at the French Open since Monica Seles won the title in 1992. It also marks the first Grand Slam singles title of her career and establishes her as one of the leading stars of the next generation in women’s tennis.

Andreeva’s journey to the title follows several breakthrough seasons that saw her emerge as one of the sport’s brightest prospects. The Russian has steadily climbed the rankings, winning major tour events and reaching the latter stages of Grand Slam tournaments before finally securing her first major crown in Paris.

For Chwalinska, despite the defeat, the tournament represented a career-defining achievement. Ranked outside the world’s top 100 entering the event, the 24-year-old became one of the surprise stories of the tournament by reaching her first Grand Slam final.

Tennis analysts believe Andreeva’s victory could signal the beginning of a new era in women’s tennis, with the teenager now expected to challenge consistently for major titles in the years ahead.
