NNPC Completes OB3 River Niger Crossing, Boosting Nigeria’s Gas Infrastructure
Nigeria has recorded a major milestone in its energy infrastructure with the successful completion of the River Niger crossing on the OB3 gas pipeline project, a technically demanding feat executed using advanced Horizontal Directional Drilling (HDD) technology.
The project, delivered by the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited in collaboration with PCE Nig. Limited, is considered a critical link in strengthening the country’s gas distribution network.
Speaking on the development, the Group Chief Executive Officer of NNPC Limited, Bashir Bayo Ojulari, described the achievement as a landmark moment for Nigeria’s gas infrastructure.

He noted that successfully navigating one of the most technically challenging segments of the project will significantly improve gas supply reliability, boost domestic utilisation, and support power generation and industrial growth nationwide.
Ojulari emphasized that the accomplishment reflects the company’s growing engineering capacity and builds on the successful River Niger crossing achieved under the AKK pipeline project in June 2025.
According to him, the milestone was made possible through strong project governance, innovative engineering solutions, and the dedication of both NNPC’s internal teams and its partners.
He further highlighted the importance of the OB3 pipeline in advancing Nigeria’s ambition to develop an integrated and resilient gas network capable of supporting long-term energy security and economic growth.
The NNPC boss also acknowledged the role of the Federal Government, led by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, noting that the administration’s Gas-to-Prosperity agenda and supportive business environment were key to the project’s success.
He extended appreciation to the company’s Board of Directors, chaired by Ahmadu Musa Kida, for their guidance and oversight.
Reaffirming NNPC’s commitment to national development, Ojulari said the company would continue to collaborate with partners to expand energy access, drive industrialisation, and improve living standards for Nigerians.
The completion of the OB3 River Niger crossing comes as Nigeria targets increased oil and gas production levels of 3 million barrels of crude oil per day and 12 billion standard cubic feet of gas daily by 2030.
