Tension gripped the Ojoo area of Ibadan, Oyo State, following a violent clash that left one person feared dead and sparked fears of further unrest.

The violence reportedly began after a disagreement allegedly resulted in the fatal stabbing of a tricycle rider on Tuesday night.

According to residents and eyewitnesses, the rider was allegedly chased and stabbed to death by suspected Hausa scrap collectors after an altercation.

The incident reportedly provoked outrage among some Yoruba youths, who staged retaliatory attacks while demanding justice for the deceased.

The unrest later escalated into gunfire, destruction of property and panic among residents, forcing many business owners to shut their shops.

Security personnel have since been deployed to the area to restore normalcy and prevent further breakdown of law and order.

Authorities are monitoring the situation as efforts continue to de-escalate tensions, while residents have been urged to remain calm and avoid actions capable of worsening the crisis.

As of the time of filing this report, security agencies had yet to issue an official statement on the incident or confirm arrests in connection with the clash.
