The Ogun State Police Command has uncovered a suspected baby factory in Mowe, rescuing two pregnant women and four children while arresting six suspects over alleged human trafficking and illegal adoption.

The operation was carried out on Monday, August 24, 2026, by operatives of the Mowe Divisional Police Station following intelligence on the activities of a suspected trafficking syndicate operating at Toluwalase Street, Abaren Village, via Gbarinmole, Mowe.

According to the Deputy Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Oluborode Opeyemi, police operatives stormed the suspected facility at about 8:00 a.m. and rescued two pregnant women identified as 23-year-old Ilesanmi Foluke and 20-year-old Ejekwa Melody.

Foluke was reportedly seven months pregnant, while Melody was eight months pregnant at the time of the rescue.

Four children, comprising two boys and two girls, were also recovered from the premises.

The police identified the six suspects arrested during the operation as Florence Glory Ogbona, 58; Magdalene Julius, 63; Chidike Egwuonwu, 40; Onyechu Chidike, 35; Stephen Ogbona, 39; and a nurse, Oseni Kusamotu Idaya.

The command said preliminary investigations suggested that the facility had allegedly been used for human trafficking and illegal adoption for some time.

In a follow-up operation, investigators reportedly traced the activities of the suspected syndicate to a hospital within the Mowe axis, where another victim, 26-year-old Blessing Bright Effiong, had delivered a baby boy on August 20.

Police said Effiong was undergoing treatment at the hospital when operatives arrived, but the whereabouts of her newborn could not be immediately established.

The attending nurse was subsequently arrested to assist investigators in locating the missing infant.

The case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Eleweran, Abeokuta, for further investigation.
