PSC Begins Training Staff for 50,000 Constable Recruitment Exercise
The Police Service Commission (PSC) has inaugurated a specialised training workshop for its staff to ensure transparent and efficient implementation of the Federal Government’s plan to recruit 50,000 additional personnel into the Nigeria Police Force.
The workshop, which opened on Monday, is designed to strengthen the technical and ethical capacity of commission staff involved in the landmark recruitment exercise.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, retired Justice Paul Adamu Galumje, a commissioner at the PSC, declared the session open on behalf of PSC Chairman DIG Hashimu Salihu Argungu (rtd), who was attending another official engagement.
Justice Galumje described the training as a practical step toward supporting the security vision of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, noting that the recruitment drive is intended to enhance internal security across the country.
He urged participants to approach the programme seriously and contribute actively to discussions that would improve recruitment procedures.
The Chairman of the PSC Standing Committee on NPF Matters, retired DIG Taiwo Lakanu, described the recruitment of 50,000 constables as a strategic intervention aimed at addressing Nigeria’s growing security challenges.
He commended the commission’s leadership for prioritising transparency and professionalism, stressing that the quality of recruits would determine the long-term effectiveness of the police force.
According to him, the training will help refresh staff knowledge, clarify operational grey areas, and promote uniformity in recruitment implementation nationwide.
Officials emphasised that the exercise would strictly follow ethical standards, legal requirements, and established recruitment guidelines to ensure fairness, inclusivity, and public confidence in the process.
The workshop is expected to focus on recruitment procedures, compliance frameworks, and integrity mechanisms that will guide the selection of eligible candidates.
