The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) has confirmed a train incident near Asham this morning at about 10:30 a.m., involving a rear locomotive colliding with an attached passenger coach.

According to Dr. Kayode Opeifa, NRC Managing Director/CEO, the accident was caused by a coupling failure between the rear locomotive and the adjacent coach. Several passengers sustained injuries and were promptly treated at a nearby medical facility. No fatalities were reported.

Emergency response teams were immediately dispatched to the scene, and the Safety Investigation Bureau (SIB) has begun a full investigation into the incident.

The train, which was en route to Idu Station, arrived at 10:39 a.m., running 38 minutes behind schedule due to the removal of the affected locomotive and coach SP 0006.

The NRC assured the public that safety remains its top priority, emphasizing that all necessary measures are being taken to prevent similar incidents and ensure the continued safe operation of train services.
