Russian Drone Strikes Kill Two in Dnipropetrovsk Region, One in Sumy as Attacks Continue Across Ukraine

Russian drone attacks killed at least three civilians and injured several others across Ukraine on Friday, according to regional authorities, underscoring the continuing human toll of the more than four-year war between Russia and Ukraine. The attacks struck the southeastern Dnipropetrovsk region and the northern border region of Sumy, areas that have frequently come under Russian aerial bombardment in recent months.

According to Ukrainian officials, two people were killed when a Russian drone struck a minibus in the city of Nikopol in the Dnipropetrovsk region. The attack also left at least 12 people injured, including two children, prompting emergency services to rush to the scene and transport victims to nearby hospitals.

Nikopol, situated on the banks of the Dnipro River opposite the Russian-occupied area surrounding the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant, has endured repeated shelling and drone attacks since the early stages of the war. Local authorities described the latest strike as another example of the continuing danger faced by civilians living near front-line regions.

In Ukraine’s northeastern Sumy region, which borders Russia, officials reported that a separate drone attack killed one man in a village near the regional capital. Authorities said emergency responders were dispatched immediately, but the victim succumbed to injuries sustained during the strike.

The Sumy region has become increasingly vulnerable to Russian attacks due to its proximity to the border. In recent weeks, Ukrainian officials have reported numerous drone, missile, and artillery strikes targeting civilian infrastructure, transportation facilities, and residential areas.

Elsewhere in southeastern Ukraine, authorities in the Zaporizhzhia region reported that Russian attacks injured two people and damaged several apartment buildings. Officials said residential structures suffered damage to facades and windows during prolonged bombardments. Emergency crews worked through the night to assess damage and assist affected residents.

The attacks come amid a broader escalation in aerial warfare between the two countries. Ukraine has intensified long-range drone operations against military and industrial targets inside Russia, while Moscow continues to launch large-scale drone and missile attacks on Ukrainian cities and border regions.

International observers and humanitarian organizations have repeatedly expressed concern over the increasing number of civilian casualties resulting from aerial attacks. According to United Nations data, civilian deaths and injuries in Ukraine have risen significantly during recent months as both sides expand the use of drones and long-range strike capabilities.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has warned that Russia could be preparing additional large-scale attacks and urged citizens to heed air-raid alerts and safety instructions. Ukrainian military officials continue to strengthen air-defense networks while appealing for additional support from Western allies.

The latest attacks highlight the continuing intensity of the war despite ongoing diplomatic efforts aimed at achieving a ceasefire. Both Russia and Ukraine have continued exchanging drone strikes, missile attacks, and artillery fire across multiple fronts, with civilians often bearing the brunt of the violence.
