Stray Ukrainian drones have reportedly breached NATO airspace in recent days, raising fresh security concerns across Eastern Europe as Kyiv intensifies its campaign targeting Russia’s oil infrastructure.

The latest incident occurred on Wednesday in Vilnius, where residents were urged to seek shelter after an unidentified drone crossed into Lithuanian territory, according to local authorities and regional reports.

Lithuanian officials said air defense systems detected the drone entering the country’s airspace, prompting emergency alerts and precautionary measures in the capital.

Residents in parts of Vilnius reportedly took cover as sirens sounded, highlighting growing anxiety in NATO member states bordering the conflict zone.

Authorities have not definitively confirmed the origin of the drone, but it is believed to be linked to Ukrainian operations targeting Russian assets, particularly oil facilities.

Ukraine has increasingly relied on long-range drones to strike deep into Russian territory, focusing on oil refineries, storage depots, and export infrastructure in an effort to weaken Moscow’s war economy.

While many of these drones are successfully intercepted or reach intended targets, some have reportedly gone off course, inadvertently entering neighboring countries’ airspace.

The incidents are raising concerns within NATO, as member states worry about the risks of escalation and accidental confrontations.

Lithuania, a NATO member sharing borders with Russia’s Kaliningrad region and Belarus, is considered particularly sensitive to any airspace violations.

Officials are expected to review air defense protocols and coordination measures to prevent future incursions.

Security analysts warn that repeated airspace breaches; whether accidental or otherwise, could heighten tensions between NATO and Russia, especially if incidents result in damage or casualties.
