Super Eagles Legends and African Football Icons Converge on Lagos for Star-Studded Reunion Match
Some of Africa’s greatest football heroes have begun arriving in Lagos ahead of a highly anticipated Legends Football Game that will reunite Nigeria’s celebrated Super Eagles squads of 1994 and 1996 against a formidable African Legends side.
The match is scheduled for Sunday, November 8, 2026, at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena in Onikan, Lagos.
It is being organised by Toptier Sports Management in collaboration with Afreximbank and its Creative Africa Nexus (CANEX) programme, forming part of CANEX WKND 2026.

The Nigerian contingent features stars from the 1994 Africa Cup of Nations-winning team and the 1996 Olympic gold-medal squad.
Expected to feature are Austin Jay-Jay Okocha, Nwankwo Kanu, Daniel Amokachi, Finidi George, Victor Ikpeba, Mutiu Adepoju, Garba Lawal, Taribo West, Austin Eguavoen, Ben Iroha, and Alloy Agu. Didier Drogba has also arrived in Lagos, adding further star power to the event.
The African Legends team is headlined by former African Footballer of the Year Emmanuel Adebayor of Togo, alongside Senegal’s El-Hadji Diouf, Ghana’s Stephen Appiah, Cameroon’s Rigobert Song, and Ivory Coast’s Didier Zokora. Other notable names include Ghana’s John Paintsil and Anthony Baffoe, Senegal’s Khalilou Fadiga, Burkina Faso’s Aristide Bance, and Zimbabwe’s Peter Ndlovu and Benjani Mwaruwari.
Chichi Nwoko, founder and CEO of Toptier Sports Management, said the event goes beyond nostalgia.
“These men carried the hopes of a nation. Thirty years on, this is our chance to bring them home to the fans who never stopped celebrating them,” she said.
She added that the initiative was designed to stimulate conversations about structures needed to protect athletes’ interests and prepare emerging talents for life after football.
Temwa Gondwe, Director of Creatives and Diaspora at Afreximbank, noted the broader significance. “The 1996 Super Eagles did more than win Olympic gold; they re-wrote the global narrative, proving to the world that African talent is an unstoppable force,” he stated.
Beyond the headline fixture, the programme includes a football clinic involving 500 young players, a professional photoshoot, and a special recognition ceremony to honour members of Nigeria’s historic 1994 and 1996 generations.
Entertainment will feature drummers, dancers, and the Loud Urban Choir before the legends kick off at 5pm. Gates open at 1.30pm, and the match will be broadcast live on NTA, AIT, and Silverbird Television.
