TCN Takes Delivery of Two 100MVA Transformers for Katsina Substation Expansion
The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has taken delivery of two 100MVA power transformers for its ongoing 330/132/33kV Transmission Substation project in Katsina State, as part of efforts to expand the national grid and improve electricity supply in the North-West.
The transformers were received by the TCN Kano Region on July 9, 2026, and will be installed at the new Katsina transmission substation currently under construction.
In a statement issued on Monday, the company’s General Manager, Public Affairs, Ndidi Mbah, said the delivery aligns with TCN’s strategic grid expansion programme aimed at strengthening the country’s transmission infrastructure.
According to the statement, the transformers are key components required for the completion of the substation and, once installed, tested and commissioned, will increase the region’s transmission capacity by an additional 160 megawatts (MW).
TCN said the completed substation will enhance the reliability, flexibility and overall efficiency of power transmission, while increasing its capacity to transmit bulk electricity to Distribution Companies (DisCos) serving Katsina State and surrounding areas.
The company noted that the Katsina project forms part of several transmission expansion and reinforcement projects being executed nationwide to modernise the national grid and meet Nigeria’s growing electricity demand.
It added that the ongoing investments are expected to strengthen grid stability, improve power evacuation capacity and support more reliable electricity supply across the country.
