Trump Announces Russia-Ukraine Energy Ceasefire as Zelensky Says He Was Not Informed
U.S. President Donald Trump announced that Russia and Ukraine had agreed to an immediate “energy ceasefire,” but Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said he had no prior knowledge of the deal.
Trump wrote on his Truth Social platform, “Effective immediately, the Energy Ceasefire in the Russia-Ukraine War is in place. Both parties have agreed. Do not break it!” Trump did not specify the scope or duration of the ceasefire.
Zelensky, however, told Axios that Trump’s announcement “was news for me.” He added, “But if the Russians agree to an energy ceasefire, Ukraine will agree.”
Russia’s position has not been confirmed. That means the establishment of an actual energy ceasefire depends on Russia’s stance and follow-up actions by both sides.

Earlier, Trump announced on Friday an agreement with Russian President Vladimir Putin for Russia to supply diesel fuel to the United States and global markets. The Kremlin said on Friday that Ukrainian drone strikes during Russia’s parliamentary elections had effectively damaged prospects for an immediate return to peace talks.
Trump has recently pressured Ukraine strongly to stop attacking Russian oil refining facilities, citing rising global energy prices. Ukraine’s position is that it cannot unilaterally stop attacking Russian energy facilities while Russia continues to strike its own.
