Ukrainian Drone Strike Kills Four in Russia’s Ryazan, Governor Confirms
At least four people have been killed following a reported Ukrainian drone attack on the Russian city of Ryazan, according to regional authorities, marking another escalation in the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine.
Ryazan Governor Pavel Malkov confirmed the fatalities, stating that the drones struck residential areas, causing significant damage and civilian casualties. Emergency services were immediately deployed to the scene, where rescue operations continued into the early hours.
Preliminary reports suggest that multiple unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) were involved in the attack, targeting infrastructure within the city. Several buildings were damaged, and local authorities have begun assessing the full extent of the destruction.
While Ukrainian officials have not immediately commented on the incident, such drone strikes have become increasingly common as Kyiv intensifies its strategy of targeting locations deep inside Russian territory. These operations are often aimed at disrupting military logistics and demonstrating reach beyond the front lines.
Ryazan, located southeast of Moscow, has previously been targeted due to its proximity to key military installations, including airbases believed to support Russian operations in Ukraine.
The Russian government has condemned the attack, describing it as a “terrorist act” against civilians, and has vowed to respond. Meanwhile, air defense systems in several regions have reportedly been placed on high alert amid fears of further strikes.
The incident comes amid heightened tensions in the war, with both sides increasing their use of drone warfare, a tactic that has reshaped modern combat and brought the conflict closer to civilian populations on both sides.
