The Presidency has debunked reports circulating about the replacement of Senator George Akume as Secretary to the Government of the Federation. In a statement signed by Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the Presidency described the reports as “fake news” fabricated by agents of mischief.

Bayo Onanuga said, “There has been no change in the status of His Excellency, Senator George Akume, as Secretary to the Government of the Federation. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, currently in Saint Lucia, has not made any new appointments.” Onanuga urged Nigerians to disregard the false information.

The Presidency assures Nigerians that Akume remains in office as SGF. Onanuga’s statement aims to put to rest the speculations and rumors that have been circulating about Akume’s replacement. “The information circulating about Akume’s replacement is untrue. Agents of mischief fabricated it,” Onanuga said.

The President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy reiterated that President Tinubu has not made any new appointments, and Akume continues to serve in his capacity as SGF. Nigerians are advised to rely on credible sources of information to avoid spreading false news.
