FORMER PEOPLES DEMOCRATIC PARTY NATIONAL SECRETARY, REX ONYEABO, DIES AT 80
The family of Sir Rex Onyeabo, a former National Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has announced his passing at the age of 80. According to a statement released by his son, Dr. Obiora Onyeabo, the PDP chieftain died peacefully on August 7.

Onyeabo was a founding member of the PDP and served as its National Secretary in 1999. He was also a member of the party’s Board of Trustees until his death. The late politician held several traditional titles, including Eze-Ugo 1 of Abuja Igbo Community, Onwa na-etili Ora 1 of Ugbawka, Ijele 1 na Akaegbe-Ugwu, and Ada-Idaha of Efik Kingdom.
A distinguished alumnus of Carnegie Mellon University in the United States, Onyeabo had a long and illustrious career in public service. He served in various capacities at both federal and state levels, including Deputy Chairman of the governing board of the Federal Capital Development Authority and Chairman of the governing councils for Ahmadu Bello University Teaching Hospital and the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital.

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar paid tribute to Onyeabo, describing him as a “quintessential gentleman” who helped build the PDP into a party with national reach. Atiku also extolled Onyeabo’s patriotic spirit and committed loyalty to friendship.
