Samira Isah Modibbo: Remembering a Chevening Scholar Who Championed Education and Technology

The Chevening Alumni Association Nigeria (CAAN) is mourning the death of Samira Isah Modibbo, a Chevening Scholar of the 2021/2022 cohort, whose life was marked by a commitment to education, technology and the empowerment of women and children.

Samira passed away on Thursday, August 6, 2026, leaving behind family, friends, colleagues and members of the Chevening community to mourn a woman remembered for her passion for social impact and service to society.

She was a graduate of the University of Westminster in the United Kingdom, where she obtained an MSc in Cyber Security under the prestigious Chevening Scholarship programme.

Beyond her academic achievements, Samira was described by members of the Chevening community as a social entrepreneur and tireless advocate for children and women’s empowerment, particularly through access to formal education and technology.

Her work reflected a strong belief in the power of education and technology to create opportunities and transform lives, particularly for vulnerable groups.

Following her death, the Board of Trustees and Executive Committee of the Chevening Alumni Association Nigeria expressed deep sorrow over the loss and extended their condolences to Samira’s family and loved ones.

According to the association, Samira has since been laid to rest in accordance with Islamic rites.

The association has also appealed to Cheveners living in Kaduna to visit the deceased’s family and offer their condolences. Members willing to participate in the condolence visit have been encouraged to indicate their availability as arrangements are being made.

A voluntary fundraising effort has also been initiated to support Samira’s elderly mother during the difficult period.

Representatives of the Chevening community said they had spoken with Samira’s mother and younger sister to convey their collective condolences and assure the family of their support.

In honour of Samira’s memory, members of the CAAN2 group agreed to change the group’s display picture to her photograph for one week as a mark of respect and remembrance.

Her death has left a painful void within the Chevening community, particularly among those who knew her as a scholar, social entrepreneur and advocate committed to improving the lives of women and children.

As colleagues, friends and members of her wider community mourn her passing, tributes are expected to continue for a woman whose work sought to use education and technology as tools for empowerment and social change.

The Chevening community extended its deepest and most sincere condolences to Samira’s family, friends and loved ones, praying for strength and comfort for them during this difficult time.
