The Group Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), Bayo Ojulari, has alleged that powerful interests within the oil and gas sector are plotting his removal from office. Ojulari made the claim during a meeting with a delegation of the Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN) at the NNPCL headquarters in Abuja.

According to Ojulari, his “offence” lies in implementing reforms directed by President Bola Tinubu to revive Nigeria’s moribund refineries and reposition the petroleum sector. He disclosed that his life, as well as those of some members of the company’s management team, had come under threat.

“We are under threat, and I’m not hiding from anybody. I’m not a politician. I may have to learn a bit about politics, but for me, this is about development, and I’m ready to learn,” Ojulari said. He insisted that he would stay the course despite mounting pressures.

Ojulari also disclosed that the company was exploring the Nigeria LNG model in its refinery rehabilitation efforts, stressing that management would not relent until the facilities operate optimally. “I’m committed to ensuring that our refineries are running at optimal levels, and we will not be deterred by the challenges we face,” he added.

The PENGASSAN delegation, led by its President, Festus Osifo, had raised concerns about the stability of the NNP. Ojulari assured them that he was committed to finding solutions to the challenges facing the sector.
