PENGASSAN ORDERS GAS SUPPLY CUT TO DANGOTE PETROLEUM REFINERY OVER LABOUR DISPUTE
The Petroleum & Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN) has directed its branches to immediately stop gas supply to Dangote Petroleum Refinery following a labour dispute. The association’s General Secretary, Comrade Lumumba Ighotemu Okugbawa, issued the directive in a statement sent to PENGASSAN branch chairmen of various oil and gas companies including TotalEnergies, Seplat, Chevron, and Shell Nigeria Gas.

Comrade Lumumba Ighotem Okugbawa expressed displeasure over Dangote Petroleum Refinery’s actions against PENGASSAN members exercising their right to unionization. “They have gone further on a mission of misinformation and propaganda to justify this illegitimacy rather than engaging meaningfully with us to right the wrong,” Comrade Lumumba Ighotemu Okugbawa said in the statement addressing branch chairmen.
The directive instructs PENGASSAN branches to cut off gas supply to the refinery effective immediately, shut crude oil supply valves, and halt loading operations for vessels headed to the facility. The NGIC Chairman is specifically told to ensure gas supply cessation. “All chairmen on this summon are to report promptly the progress of the directive,” Comrade Lumumba Ighotemu Okugbawa stated.
The PENGASSAN General Secretary underscored solidarity with affected members, closing with the union’s motto: “Injury to one! Injury to all.” The move reflects escalating tensions between PENGASSAN and Dangote Petroleum Refinery over labour practices and union representation.
