Shettima assures transparency in the Disbursement of N5bn to Kano Traders
Vice President Kashim Shettima has reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to preventing future fire outbreaks in markets across Kano State, following the recent inferno at Singer Market.

Shettima disclosed that documentation has been completed by the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs for the release of the N5 billion relief fund approved by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for traders affected by the fire incident.
The Vice President spoke on Wednesday at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, while receiving a delegation from the Kano business community led by Alhaji Sabiu Bako, who paid a thank-you visit over the federal government’s intervention.
He explained that the N5 billion support was based on preliminary damage assessments, noting that the president acted swiftly after the incident and directed immediate intervention. He also stressed that the funds must be disbursed transparently.
Shettima further revealed that the President has directed relevant federal agencies to work with the Kano State Government to introduce proactive fire safety measures to prevent a recurrence.
Addressing broader economic concerns, the vice president expressed optimism that the ongoing $2.8 billion Ajaokuta-Kaduna-Kano Gas Pipeline will revive industrial activities in Kano. He noted that the project, which includes a 1,350MW power plant in Kano, is about 80 per cent complete and will boost power supply to industries in the state.
Earlier, Alhaji Bako commended the president for the N5 billion intervention and appealed for an interest-free loan facility for affected traders, with a repayment period of up to ten years to aid business recovery.
He said the support would help rebuild livelihoods and restore confidence within Kano’s business community.
