Iran has executed a man accused of spying for Israel’s foreign intelligence service, Mossad, as violence across the Middle East continues with deadly missile exchanges and airstrikes.

According to Iran’s Tasnim News Agency, the suspect was arrested in a rural area west of Tehran during a 12-day conflict between Iran and Israel in June. Authorities allege he supplied images and sensitive information about strategic locations to Israel.

Iranian officials have detained numerous individuals suspected of espionage since the June conflict. Unconfirmed reports indicate that more than 10 people have been executed in connection with these allegations.

Human rights organisations have long criticised Iran’s use of capital punishment, arguing that it is frequently employed to suppress dissent. The United Nations reports that over 1,000 executions were carried out in Iran last year alone.

The execution highlights the ongoing security and intelligence challenges in the region, as tensions between Iran and Israel remain high.
