Nigeria’s First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, has emphasized that books remain essential in education despite the growing influence of technology.

She made this known during a meeting with Charles Harder on the sidelines of the Fostering the Future Together Global Summit, hosted by Melania Trump in Washington, D.C..

According to the First Lady, reading physical books plays a crucial role in shaping children’s intellectual development, as it allows them to gain knowledge without the distractions often associated with social media and other digital platforms.

She further stressed that education remains a central priority of the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, noting that building a strong educational foundation is key to national development.

“If you want to help people, you must first understand who they really are,” she said, adding that the president is committed to reforming systems and laying a solid groundwork for sustainable growth.

Mrs. Tinubu also revealed plans to launch a nationwide child nutrition campaign through the Office of the First Lady in the coming days, aimed at improving the wellbeing of Nigerian children.

In his remarks, Harder stated that the engagement was aimed at deepening discussions on the welfare and future of Nigerian children. He explained that the Best Future Generations initiative, founded by Melania Trump, focuses on addressing key issues affecting children globally, including nutrition, healthcare, and protection from abuse.

The summit, which brought together over 45 First Ladies from across the world, featured extensive discussions on the impact of artificial intelligence on children and adolescents.
