Nyesom Wike has thrown his weight behind an ambitious plan by DAAR Communications Plc to establish a Media City in Abuja, describing the project as a transformative initiative that could redefine Nigeria’s media and creative landscape.

Speaking during a meeting with the management of DAAR Communications, Wike expressed readiness for the Federal Capital Territory Administration to partner with the organisation to bring the project to life, noting that although the plan is “ambitious,” it is achievable with commitment and proper execution.

The proposed Media City, expected to be located in the Asokoro District, is envisioned as a major hub for modern media production, technology, tourism, and business activities. Wike said the development would not only boost the global image of Abuja but also create economic opportunities and support the growth of small and medium-scale enterprises within the capital.

As part of efforts to fast-track the project, the minister directed relevant FCT authorities to work with DAAR Communications in resolving land-related issues, including documentation and site specifications, which have previously delayed progress.

Wike also used the opportunity to call on media professionals to uphold accuracy, objectivity, and responsible reporting, warning against the spread of misinformation and emphasizing the role of the press in strengthening democracy.

On its part, DAAR Communications said the Media City project would significantly enhance Nigeria’s broadcast and production capacity while positioning Abuja as a leading media destination in Africa. The company also reaffirmed its commitment to collaborating with the FCT administration to ensure the successful delivery of the project.
