Police Arrest Two Security Guards Over Traveller’s Murder
The Nigeria Police Force in Ogun State has arrested two security guards over the alleged murder of a traveller identified simply as Promise in the Ibafo area of the state.
The Command’s spokesperson, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, disclosed this in a statement issued in Abeokuta, noting that detectives from the Ibafo Divisional Headquarters acted on a credible tip-off to apprehend the suspects.
According to the statement, the incident occurred on April 10 at about 7:00 p.m. Detectives were said to have swiftly mobilised to the scene, rescued the victim, and rushed him to a hospital for urgent medical attention.
While being transported, the victim reportedly identified himself and alleged that he had been attacked and macheted by security guards after arriving in the area the previous night.
He was, however, confirmed dead on arrival by medical personnel.
His body has since been deposited at the Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital for a post-mortem examination.
Preliminary investigations revealed a trail of blood leading directly to one of the suspects, which facilitated his arrest. Further efforts led to the apprehension of a second suspect, while police say they are still tracking other accomplices who fled the scene.
The case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Eleweran, Abeokuta, for further investigation and prosecution.
The Commissioner of Police in the state, CP Bode Ojajuni, condemned the incident, warning against unlawful violence and reiterating the Command’s zero tolerance for extrajudicial actions.
He also urged members of the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities through the command’s emergency lines.
