U.S. President Donald Trump has declared that the ongoing conflict with Iran is “close to over,” raising hopes of a possible diplomatic breakthrough as fresh mediation efforts intensify in the region.

The statement comes amid renewed diplomatic activity, with Pakistan’s Army Chief, Field Marshal Asim Munir, arriving in Tehran to facilitate negotiations between Washington and Tehran. Pakistan has emerged as a key intermediary, attempting to revive stalled peace talks after earlier negotiations in Islamabad failed to produce a deal.

The war, which began in late February following joint U.S.-Israeli military action against Iran, has triggered widespread instability across the Middle East, including retaliatory strikes and disruptions to global oil routes. A temporary ceasefire is currently in place, and mediators are pushing to extend it while working toward a broader agreement.

Trump expressed optimism about imminent progress, hinting at a decisive phase in negotiations and suggesting that developments in the coming days could determine the outcome of the conflict.

Meanwhile, behind-the-scenes discussions continue, with U.S. and Iranian officials reportedly moving closer to a framework agreement that could formally end hostilities. Mediators; including Pakistan, Egypt, and Turkey, are actively coordinating efforts to secure a lasting resolution before the current ceasefire expires.

However, major sticking points remain, particularly over Iran’s nuclear program. Tehran has proposed a temporary pause in its nuclear activities, while the United States is pushing for longer-term restrictions and the removal of enriched materials differences that continue to complicate negotiations.

Despite the optimism, tensions remain high. The U.S. naval blockade of Iranian ports and continued regional skirmishes underscore the fragility of the ceasefire, even as diplomatic channels remain open.
