Tragedy was averted in Lagos after a 33-year-old man who reportedly jumped into the lagoon from the Third Mainland Bridge was rescued alive.

The man, identified simply as Olu, was said to have driven his silver Lexus SUV to the Yaba axis of the bridge, parked, and then leapt into the water.

He was quickly spotted, prompting a swift response. The Divisional Police Officer in Yaba, CSP Adegbemi Isiaka, was alerted and mobilised a nearby fisherman who successfully rescued him. He was subsequently taken to a hospital for medical attention.

Sources indicated that the victim, said to be a resident of Ibadan, had travelled to Lagos earlier that day. He was reportedly distressed over financial losses linked to cryptocurrency investments.

An eyewitness said the man left his phones inside the vehicle before jumping, adding that he rushed to a nearby office of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) to seek help. By the time officials arrived, the victim had already been pulled from the water.

The spokesperson for the Lagos State Police Command, SP Abimbola Adebisi, confirmed the incident, noting that the man has since been discharged from the hospital and reunited with his family.

According to police, his relatives have undertaken to provide further care and support, including professional rehabilitation.
