The Executive Chairman of Orhionmwon Local Government Council, Hon. Thompson Osagie, has recorded another infrastructural milestone with the successful completion of the reconstruction and grading of the INEC Road and Phase II of the Secretariat Link Road in Abudu. In a statement, the Chief Press Secretary to the Executive Chairman of Orhionmwon Local Government Council, Dennis Ugbudian, disclosed that the newly completed INEC Road, which stretches from the Benin–Agbor Road axis through the Junior and Senior Staff Quarters and links directly to the Abudu General Hospital behind the Council Secretariat Complex, has been constructed to standard specifications, delivering both durability and aesthetic appeal. Phase II of the Secretariat Link Road, which connects seamlessly to the INEC Road, has also been fully completed.

These critical access roads had suffered decades of neglect, remaining in a deplorable state since the 1990s despite successive administrations. Their rehabilitation marks a historic intervention that has significantly improved accessibility for Council staff, INEC officials, Local Education Authority personnel, and residents within the axis, who previously faced severe challenges navigating the area. Today, relief and renewed confidence have replaced years of frustration, thanks to the Chairman’s purposeful and people-oriented leadership. During an earlier inspection visit, Hon. Osagie had expressed deep concern over the deteriorating condition of the roads and questioned the prolonged inaction of previous administrations. In a decisive move, he assured staff that the roads would be fixed within two days and immediately directed the Department of Works to commence urgent reconstruction, issuing a firm two-day deadline. In a remarkable display of efficiency and commitment, the directive was executed within the stipulated period.

Speaking on the development, Engr. Ogbebor of the Works Department commended the Chairman’s leadership, describing the project as remarkable: “This is one quality you cannot take away from the Chairman, Hon. Thompson Osagie. Once he sets his mind to a task, he executes it with patience, diligence, and excellence. What we have achieved here is almost unbelievable. Many had given up hope on these roads, but today, they have been completely transformed.” Similarly, the Head of Department, Works, Engr. Edosa, expressed immense satisfaction with the outcome, affirming that the roads were constructed strictly to specification: “I am truly delighted with the quality of work delivered. Our team worked tirelessly, round the clock, to meet the Chairman’s two-day directive, and we are proud to have achieved this milestone within the stipulated timeframe. This is just the beginning. Our next focus is Evbuobanosa, after which we will proceed to Ukpato Ward, as we systematically extend this intervention across all twelve wards of the Local Government.”

Also lending his voice, Hon. Endurance Iduwe described the feat as extraordinary and beyond expectation: “When we visited this site a few days ago, the situation appeared almost impossible. I doubted whether such a transformation could be achieved within such a short period. But what we see today is truly commendable. The roads are even better than imagined. Hon. Osagie has once again proven his capacity to deliver, and I applaud his vision and determination.” Dennis Ugbudian further noted that in continuation of this momentum, construction equipment has already been deployed to Evbuobanosa to commence another phase of massive road reconstruction and grading, with plans to extend similar interventions to Ukpato Ward and across the twelve wards of the Local Government Area. Ugbudian added that this milestone further underscores Hon. Thompson Osagie’s resolve to reposition Orhionmwon as a model of grassroots development.
