Akwa Ibom State Receives First Batch of 20 CNG Buses
Governor Umo Eno has taken delivery of the first batch of 20 Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) buses, marking a significant step towards transforming the state’s public transportation system.

The buses, which were received and inspected at Government House in Uyo, represent the first tranche of a 50-bus fleet procured by the administration to provide safer and more efficient services across the state’s 31 local government areas.
Governor Eno described the delivery as a major milestone in his administration’s infrastructure drive, with projects now moving from planning to visible execution.
He stated that the initiative aligns with his commitment to making transportation “easy and simple” for the people, leveraging the state’s improved road network as a foundation.
He also noted that the next phase will focus on completing bus terminals, installing tracking devices, and introducing a modern ticketing platform.
The governor commended the Ministry of Transport, the contractor, and the military for ensuring the successful delivery of the vehicles. “This is another clear indication that our vision for a modern and efficient transportation system is gradually becoming a reality,” he said, adding that “meaningful development requires patience, planning, and consistent execution”.
Commissioner for Transport, Dr. Anthony Luke, praised the governor’s visionary leadership, stating that the arrival of the buses is “a testimony to the fact that Governor Umo Eno is very intentional and concerned about making life better for the people”.
Reports also confirmed that the buses are brand-new, factory-built vehicles from Turkey, with the remaining units expected to arrive in July and August.
