Authorities in Los Angeles have officially ruled the death of 14-year-old Celeste Rivas Hernandez a homicide, months after her body was discovered in the trunk of a vehicle linked to singer D4vd.

The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s Office announced on Wednesday that the teenager died from multiple penetrating injuries caused by an unidentified object or objects.

Celeste’s body was found in September inside the front trunk of a Tesla registered to the 21-year-old musician, whose real name is David Anthony Burke.

The singer has been charged with multiple offences, including murder, but has pleaded not guilty. His legal team insists he is innocent and has vowed to contest the charges.

“We will vigorously defend David’s innocence,” his attorneys said in a statement, maintaining that available evidence would show he was not responsible for the teenager’s death.

Officials revealed that although the cause and manner of death were determined as far back as December 9, 2025, the findings were withheld from the public while investigations were ongoing.

Chief Medical Examiner Dr. Odey Ukpo said the delay, though difficult, was necessary due to the complexity of the case and the need to preserve the integrity of the investigation.

The victim’s family, who recently spoke publicly for the first time, described Celeste as a vibrant teenager who loved singing and dancing, and called for justice.

At a press briefing, Nathan Hochman said the teenager visited Burke’s residence in the Hollywood Hills on April 23, 2025, and was never seen again.

Her disappearance was reported shortly after, but her body was not discovered until months later. Authorities say the time gap complicated forensic analysis, as evidence had significantly degraded.

Los Angeles Police Department Chief Jim McDonnell defended the pace of the investigation, stressing that building a solid case required time and careful handling of evidence.

“This investigation was driven by a single purpose to secure justice for Celeste,” he said.

Burke was arrested earlier this month and has remained in custody without bail. The case has also had a major impact on his career, with his tour cancelled and commercial partnerships reportedly withdrawn.

Prosecutors say the investigation is ongoing and have urged anyone with relevant information to come forward.
