Billionaire businessman and father of music superstar Davido, Dr. Deji Adeleke, stunned attendees at the launch of the Osun State Security Trust Fund on Thursday by announcing a personal donation of Five Hundred Million Naira to support security infrastructure in the state.

Governor Ademola Adeleke launched the fund at a ceremony in Osogbo, where he also announced that the state government would contribute Three Hundred Million Naira as take-off support for the initiative. Speaking at the event, the governor explained that the trust fund was being activated to address growing insecurity and public sector funding challenges facing all levels of government.

“It is neither a political project nor a self-serving policy. This is a necessary policy to secure our people. Only an irresponsible government will abandon the PPP arrangement that is working so well in Lagos, Kaduna, River states among others. Ours is a responsible leadership with people-oriented innovations, policies and programmes,” Governor Adeleke said.

The governor disclosed that the fund would finance the establishment of a modern situation room equipped with real-time CCTV surveillance, as well as the provision of operational tools required by security agencies across the state. He also announced that refurbished Armoured Personnel Carriers and new patrol vehicles would soon be distributed to security operatives.

The Secretary to the State Government, Hon. Teslim Igbalaye, who also serves as deputy chairman of the trust fund, noted that the launch followed the activation of the fund’s enabling law which had been passed as far back as 2012 but was abandoned under the immediate past administration of Mr Gboyega Oyetola.

Also speaking, the Secretary of the Security Trust Fund, Femi Oyedipe, said the initiative would address security challenges and provide essential equipment for security personnel. “No government can fund security apparatus alone; funding security is one of the most expensive things the government can embark on,” Oyedipe stated.

Governor Adeleke reassured stakeholders of strict accountability and transparency in the management of the fund. “As a trust fund regulated by law, I assure you of strict accountability, transparency and due process in the management of the trust fund,” he said.

Several other businesses and individuals also made donations at the event, with Olumide Osunshina and Rotimi Ibidapo contributing N50 million each, bringing total pledges to over One Billion Naira. The governor used the occasion to invite the private sector, financial institutions, development partners, professional bodies, and all sons and daughters of Osun State to partner with the government in securing the state.

Describing security as the bedrock of development, Governor Adeleke declared that his administration is determined to maintain Osun’s record as one of the most peaceful states in the country.
