Fresh violence has erupted in Plateau State following an attack by suspected bandits on a mining site in Mazat community, Ropp District of Barkin Ladi Local Government Area, leaving at least four persons dead, including a pregnant woman.

Several others were also injured during the assault, which occurred on Friday and has heightened tension across surrounding communities already grappling with recurring insecurity.

Local sources said the attackers stormed the mining area and opened fire indiscriminately on residents and workers before fleeing the scene.

Among those killed was a pregnant woman, while at least four other victims reportedly sustained varying degrees of injuries and were rushed to nearby medical facilities for treatment.

Community leaders described the incident as another devastating blow to efforts aimed at restoring peace in Plateau communities affected by repeated attacks linked to armed groups and criminal gangs.

Residents said fear and uncertainty have continued to spread across Barkin Ladi and adjoining areas following the latest killings.

Security agencies were said to have been deployed to the area after the attack, although authorities had yet to issue an official casualty figure as of press time.

The latest incident adds to growing concerns over worsening insecurity in parts of Plateau State, where communities have repeatedly suffered attacks involving killings, displacement, and destruction of property.

Stakeholders and residents have continued to call for stronger security intervention and sustained protection for vulnerable rural communities across the state.
