Fresh leadership tensions have erupted within the Peoples Democratic Party following the release of the Certified True Copy (CTC) of a Supreme Court judgment reportedly affirming the suspension of former National Secretary, Samuel Anyanwu, and dismissing a cross-appeal filed by him and other party members.

In a strongly worded statement issued in Abuja on Friday, an Interim National Working Committee (iNWC) of the party declared that it had officially assumed administrative control of the PDP, describing the apex court ruling as “the end of an illegitimate era” within the opposition party.

The group claimed that the Supreme Court unanimously dismissed the cross-appeal filed by Anyanwu and others, thereby sustaining their suspension and invalidating actions allegedly taken during the disputed period.

According to the statement, any appointments, communiqués, or decisions issued by Anyanwu and his allies while under suspension are “null, void, and of no legal consequence.”

The iNWC also rejected the PDP National Convention reportedly held on March 29, 2026, in Abuja, describing it as unlawful and lacking constitutional legitimacy.

“Since the conveners lacked the legal capacity to act, the entire March 29 exercise is a nullity ab initio,” the statement declared.

The interim leadership further claimed that the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC), under the leadership of acting Chairman Adolphus Wabara, appointed the iNWC at its 103rd meeting to prevent a leadership vacuum within the party.

The committee is reportedly chaired by Kabiru Tanimu Turaki, who, according to the statement, has now assumed responsibility for the administrative leadership of the PDP in line with the party’s constitution.

The statement referenced several pages of the Certified True Copy of the Supreme Court judgment, claiming all five justices dismissed the cross-appeal filed by Anyanwu and others.

However, as of press time, there had been no official reaction from Anyanwu’s camp or the faction that conducted the March 29 convention.

The latest development is expected to intensify the leadership crisis within the PDP as the party struggles to stabilize ahead of the 2027 general elections.
