Abubakar Malami has secured the governorship nomination form of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) for the upcoming Kebbi State governorship election, declaring what he described as a “state of emergency on misgovernance” in the state.

Malami, who served as Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice under former President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration, made the declaration while addressing supporters and party members after obtaining the nomination form.

The former minister criticised the current state of governance in Kebbi, alleging that the people have continued to suffer from poor infrastructure, economic hardship, unemployment, and inadequate public services.

According to him, the decision to contest under the ADC platform is driven by the need to provide effective leadership and restore confidence in governance across the state.

“Kebbi cannot continue on the path of poor governance. There is an urgent need for change and responsible leadership,” Malami reportedly said during the event.

He promised to focus on economic development, youth empowerment, education, agriculture, and security if elected governor, adding that his administration would prioritize transparency and accountability.

Malami also called on residents of the state to support what he described as a movement aimed at rescuing Kebbi from stagnation and underdevelopment.

Political observers say his entry into the race could reshape the political landscape in Kebbi ahead of the governorship election, especially given his national political profile and influence in the state.

The African Democratic Congress has continued efforts to strengthen its presence in several states as political activities gradually intensify ahead of future elections in Nigeria.
