Nollywood Stars Gather as AMVCA 2026 Celebrates African Cinema v
The 12th edition of the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards 2026 was held in grand style at the Eko Hotel and Suites, bringing together some of the biggest names in African film, television and digital entertainment for a night of glamour, celebration and recognition.
The annual awards ceremony, hosted by Bovi Ugboma and Nomzamo Mbatha, celebrated outstanding achievements across multiple categories in African entertainment.
The biggest winner of the night was My Father’s Shadow, which dominated the awards with several major victories, including Best Movie, Best Director, Best Writing in a Movie, Best Score/Music and Best Sound Design. Director Akinola Davies Jr. received praise for his work on the acclaimed production.
In the acting categories, Uzor Arukwe won Best Lead Actor for his performance in Colours of Fire, while Linda Ejiofor-Suleiman emerged as Best Lead Actress for her role in The Serpent’s Gift. Linda Ejiofor also made history with a double win after claiming Best Supporting Actress earlier in the evening.
Other notable winners included Bucci Franklin, who won Best Supporting Actor for To Kill A Monkey, while Lateef Adedimeji’s Lisabi: A Legend Is Born secured the award for Best Indigenous Language Film in West Africa.
The ceremony also featured dazzling fashion moments on the red carpet, live performances, emotional acceptance speeches and tributes to veterans of the entertainment industry. Veteran actors Sola Sobowale and Kanayo O. Kanayo received Industry Merit Awards for their contributions to African cinema.
The AMVCA continues to stand as one of Africa’s biggest entertainment events, recognising excellence and promoting the growth of Nollywood and African storytelling on the global stage.
