At least 10 people have been killed and several others injured following an ambush by suspected bandits along the Gusau–Magami–Dansadau Road in Zamfara State.

Local sources said the attack occurred on Monday evening between 4pm and 5pm while vigilante operatives were escorting residents in a convoy through the area amid growing security concerns along the route.

According to eyewitness accounts, the attackers suddenly emerged and opened fire on the convoy, causing panic as travellers attempted to flee the scene.

Among those reportedly killed were five traders, three local hunters and a member of the Zamfara Community Protection Guards (CPG), while several others sustained injuries during the assault.

Residents also disclosed that an unspecified number of people were abducted by the gunmen during the attack, although authorities were yet to confirm the exact figure as of press time.

The injured victims were initially taken to the General Hospital in Magami for emergency treatment and were expected to be referred to Gusau for further medical care.

However, sources at the hospital said the transfer was delayed because security personnel were yet to provide escort for the movement of the victims due to fears of another attack along the road.

The Gusau–Magami–Dansadau corridor has remained one of the flashpoints of armed banditry in Zamfara State, with frequent attacks on travellers, villages and farming communities despite ongoing security operations in the region.

As of the time of filing this report, security agencies in the state had not released an official statement on the latest incident.
