Football lovers in Lagos are set for an emotional and nostalgic gathering as Saint Finbarr’s College Old Boys Association hosts a novelty match in honour of late Nigerian football icon Henry Nwosu.

The memorial fixture, themed “Final Whistle for a Legend,” will see Saint Finbarr’s Old Boys face off against Lagos Legends in a symbolic match celebrating the life and legacy of one of Nigeria’s most gifted midfielders.

Scheduled for Saturday, May 23, 2026, at the Saint Finbarr’s College grounds in Akoka, Yaba, the event is expected to draw former football stars, alumni, sports enthusiasts, and members of the public. Kickoff is set for 10:00 AM prompt.

 

Henry Nwosu, a member of Nigeria’s historic 1980 AFCON-winning squad, remains a revered figure in Nigerian football history. Known for his creativity, vision, and technical brilliance, his contributions to the national team and club football left a lasting impact on the sport in the country.

Organisers say the match is more than just a game, it is a celebration of legacy, unity, and respect for a man whose influence transcended generations. The event will also serve as a reunion platform for old students and football veterans, rekindling memories while inspiring younger talents.
