Standard Chartered Appoints Manus Costello as New Group CFO
Standard Chartered has appointed Manus Costello as its permanent Chief Financial Officer, officially confirming him in the role after serving in an interim capacity.
The banking giant said Costello will also join the board as an executive director, subject to regulatory approval, marking a key leadership appointment as the group continues its strategic repositioning.
Costello’s appointment follows the departure of former CFO Diego De Giorgi in February, after nearly three years in the role. He had been temporarily replaced by interim finance chief Peter Burrill during the transition period.
Before becoming CFO, Costello served as Standard Chartered’s Global Head of Investor Relations, a role he took on in 2024. He has also worked across equity research and investment strategy for more than two decades, including senior positions at Autonomous and Merrill Lynch.
Chief Executive Bill Winters praised the appointment, describing Costello as a leader who has contributed significantly to the bank’s strategic engagement with investors and overall financial direction.
According to the bank, his experience in equity research and investor relations is expected to support Standard Chartered as it pushes forward with its medium-term growth and restructuring plans.
The appointment comes as the lender continues to refine its global operations and strengthen leadership across key divisions.
