Ben Murray-Bruce Denies Withdrawal, Insists He Remains in APC Senatorial Race
Former Nigerian senator and businessman, Ben Murray-Bruce, has dismissed reports suggesting he had stepped down or been disqualified from the All Progressives Congress (APC) senatorial primary race, insisting that he remains fully in the contest.
Bruce clarified the situation in a statement shared on his social media handle, describing the circulating reports as false and misleading. He maintained that he has neither withdrawn from the race nor been disqualified by the party’s screening committee.
“I have neither withdrawn nor been disqualified. I am still in the race,” he stated, pushing back against claims that his political ambition had been cut short.
The clarification comes amid earlier reports linking him to the APC screening exercise, where several aspirants were reportedly not cleared for participation in the party’s senatorial primaries. However, Bruce insists his name remains valid in the contest and urged the public to disregard rumours suggesting otherwise.
He also called for caution in political reporting, stressing the need for accurate verification before publication, especially during the sensitive election period.
Ben Murray-Bruce, who previously represented Bayelsa East Senatorial District in the Senate, recently defected to the APC and has been positioning himself for a return to the National Assembly.
The development adds to ongoing political realignments within the APC ahead of the party’s primaries.
