Senate President Godswill Akpabio and Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma, who serves as Chairman of the Progressive Governors Forum, arrived in Osogbo on Wednesday alongside other top All Progressives Congress leaders for the party’s mega rally ahead of Saturday’s governorship election.

Also present were Edo Governor Monday Okpebholo, Kogi Governor Usman Ododo, Ondo Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, and House of Representatives member James Faleke.

Minister of Marine and Blue Economy Adegboyega Oyetola welcomed the dignitaries, stating the gathering would provide “an opportunity for APC members and supporters to converge in Osogbo for a peaceful and vibrant campaign event”.

The rally marks the final day of official campaigning, as the Independent National Electoral Commission set August 13 as the deadline following the poll date adjustment from August 8 to August 15.

The high-profile gathering is part of the party’s last mobilisation efforts for its governorship candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, a former Managing Director of the National Inland Waterways Authority.

Party supporters and campaign coordinators from all 30 local government areas of Osun State are expected to attend the event.

The visiting governors have also commenced engagements with party members and indigenes of their respective states residing in Osun to broaden support.

Oyebamiji is contesting against incumbent Governor Ademola Adeleke of the Accord Party.

The election has been marked by heightened security concerns following recent violent incidents and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission temporarily freezing the state government’s account before President Bola Tinubu intervened.
