The African Democratic Congress (ADC) senatorial candidate for Lagos Central in the 2027 general elections, Engr. Yomi Idowu, has called for an independent forensic investigation into alleged manipulation of the Independent National Electoral Commission’s (INEC) voters’ register following reports of suspected AI-generated entries.

Idowu also demanded the prosecution of electoral officials found culpable, insisting that the commission must identify those responsible for introducing questionable records into the national electoral database rather than merely removing the entries.

In a statement, the ADC candidate described the reported discovery as a serious threat to the credibility and integrity of Nigeria’s electoral system.

He expressed particular concern over the reported acknowledgement by INEC’s Director of ICT, Lawrence Bayode, that some registration officers allegedly used their official login credentials to introduce questionable records into the system.

According to Idowu, the revelation raises concerns about possible internal compromise, accountability and the security of the country’s electoral database.

He argued that cleaning up the register without investigating how the questionable entries were introduced would leave critical questions about the integrity of the system unanswered.

The ADC candidate called on INEC to establish who was responsible, determine whether the alleged manipulation was deliberate or widespread and make the findings of an independent investigation public.

He further demanded that anyone found responsible should face prosecution, irrespective of their position or political affiliation.

Idowu warned that the voters’ register remained the foundation of credible elections and that any attempt to compromise its integrity should not be dismissed as a routine administrative error.

With the 2027 general elections approaching, he said Nigerians needed concrete assurances of transparency and accountability rather than promises that questionable entries would simply be removed.

He maintained that identifying and sanctioning those responsible was necessary to prevent a recurrence and restore confidence in the electoral database.

“Cleaning the register without identifying and holding those responsible accountable is treating the symptoms while leaving the disease untouched,” he said.

The ADC candidate insisted that Nigeria needed a credible electoral process backed by transparency, accountability and a voters’ register that citizens and political stakeholders could trust.
