Taiwan Accuses China of Escalating Regional Security Threats

Taiwan has said that China’s expanding military activities across the Taiwan Strait and the wider Indo-Pacific region are the primary source of rising regional instability, amid renewed tensions between the two sides.

The statement was made on Tuesday by Taiwan’s Premier, Cho Jung-tai, who accused Beijing of escalating military pressure through frequent drills, naval deployments, and air operations near the island.

According to the premier, China’s ongoing military exercises; including joint combat readiness patrols, naval formations, and air force maneuvers, have significantly heightened security concerns in the region and disrupted maritime safety in key international waters.

China, which considers Taiwan part of its territory, has not yet responded directly to the latest remarks. However, Beijing has consistently defended its military activities as “routine training” and necessary to safeguard national sovereignty.

Taiwan’s defense ministry also reported recent movements of Chinese naval vessels, including a carrier strike group operating in the Western Pacific, as part of what it described as an intensifying pattern of military pressure.

The remarks come ahead of President Lai Ching-te’s second anniversary in office, a period marked by increased cross-strait tensions and growing international attention on security in the region.

Taipei has repeatedly called for dialogue with Beijing, but insists that any talks must be conducted on an equal footing and without political preconditions.

The latest exchange adds to ongoing friction between China and Taiwan, with global powers closely watching developments due to their potential impact on Indo-Pacific stability and international trade routes.
